Gwendolyn Newill Blaine, 86, of Hempfield Township, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, and mother of an Oil City resident, died Saturday, April 20, 2002, in Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. Born Oct. 15, 1915, in Kecksburg, she was a daughter of the late William and Hattie Newill Faith. She was a graduate of the former Hurst High School and a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Mt. Pleasant. She served as a volunteer with the Meals on Wheels program and at Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant, and was an active member of the Mt. Pleasant Senior Citizens. Surviving are her children, Jack N. Blaine and his wife, Judy, of Oil City, Barry Richard Blaine of Uniontown, and Kathleen S. Smith and her husband, Gary, of Leechburg; five grandchildren, Jacqueline Gruver, Jonathan Blaine, Marcus Blaine, Elizabeth Venanzio, and Ryan Smith; and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister, Marjorie Myers of Greensburg, and a nephew, James N. Myers of Greensburg. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Blaine Sr.; a son, Frederick Blaine Jr.; and a brother, Gerald D. Faith. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Brooks Funeral Home, Inc., 406 E. Washington St., Mt. Pleasant. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Sherry A. Miller, officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Joy Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant Township. The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Main Street, Mt. Pleasant, or to one's favorite charity.
