Son of Richard Austin Burden and Eleanor Arden Warrick Burden.

Funeral for Charles W. Burden Sr., 82, of Hartselle will be Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church in Hartselle with the Rev. David Gamble and Dr. T. Reynolds Hall officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. The body will be at the church one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Burden, who died Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009, at his residence, was born Aug. 23, 1927, in Lawrence County to Richard Austin Burden and Eleanor Arden Warrick Burden. He was a graduate of Hazelwood High School Class of 1946. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Burden was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He was also a Gideon.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Marvin Burden and Mitchell Burden; grandson, T.J. Gelatt; and son-in-law, Tim Gelatt.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Frances Burden; one son, Charles (Karen) Burden Jr. of Missouri; three daughters, Anita Gelatt of Hartselle, Kathy (Bill) Darby of Trinity and Rebecca (Jeff) Kirby of Hartselle; nine grandchildren, Anna Burden, Zachary Burden, Ben Darby, Ashley Kirby, Shannon Kirby, Kimberly (Jonathan) Gibson, Katy (Shawn) Peters, Beth Gelatt and Amy Gelatt; and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Zachary Burden, Bill Darby, Ben Darby, Jeff Kirby, Shannon Kirby, Jonathan Gibson, Steve Sherrill, Bert Bunner.
