This cemetery has been added twice, as the Wolverton Cemetery and then as the Prallsville Cemetery. It needs to be combined.

Note 1: This cemetery is referred to as the old Woolverton Farm Cemetery. It is also called the Rittenhouse Burying Ground, Woolverton Inn, Stockton, New Jersey, and Wolverton Cemetery, Stockton (formerly named Prallsville), Hunterdon, NJ.

Note 2: This cemetery was owned by the Howell family during the period 1710-1750, and many of those buried throughout the history of the cemetery (1711-1827) are descendants of Daniel Howell b 1688, including numerous Rittenhouses. (The Rittenhouse family never owned the cemetery.) The Woolvertons owned the cemetery
during the years 1750-1792, but there are no confirmed Woolverton burials. It was a neighborhood cemetery
for the Howell, Rittenhouse, Cavanaugh, Bake, and Lambert families. John Prall Jr. owned the cemetery in 1794-1831, which is when most of the burials probably occurred. Some old records refer to it as the Prallsville Cemetery, an apt designation because it is located in Prallsville and served Prallsville, a village between Stockton and Rosemont known by that name from 1794 to the present.

Prallsville/Wolverton Cemetery
26 Risler Road, Stockton, New Jersey

This Cemetery is located at N 40-24-40.2 W 074-58-59.6 in Prallsville (between Stockton and Rosemont), Delaware Twp, Hunterdon Co, NJ. Rather than accessing the cemetery via the Wolverton Inn, which is a private establishment, park at the John Prall Jr. House, a historic property managed by the Delaware Canal & Railroad Authority at 26 Risler Road, Stockton, NJ. Walk behind the house to the head of the Wickecheoke Reserve Conservation Trail. The trail and cemetery are part of a New Jersey Conservation Foundation preserve. Hike for about 800 feet in a northeasterly direction along the bank to the cemetery. The graveyard is in a wooded area. The bank to its south drops fifty feet above a backwater of the Delaware River. To its north is an arable field owned by the Wolverton Inn. It is rectangular, the long southwest edge consisting of a low stone wall.

Message rec'd:

"I visited the cemetery a couple years ago with my fiancee and we discovered that the path along the bank of the pond has collapsed.

The good news is I found out from someone else that there was an alternative way to get to the cemetery via a driveway, so I supplied that information to the person who manages the Prallsville Cemetery page at http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=cr&GRid=41372271&CRid=2333969& and they updated it with the new directions.

So I'd recommend that you consider deleting the out-of-date directions from the page for Catharine Howell Ritten house (http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=41372271) so they don't conflict with the updated directions."

"Currently you can get to the cemetery this way: go to the intersection of Risler Street and Worman Road in Stockton, NJ. Enter Worman Road and go past the first house on the right, the house with the white fence in front. At the first break in the fence, go up the hill to the gravel driveway/road, and go up the hill, arcing to the right behind the house that has a white fence in front of it, and eventually it takes you up to the cemetery."
