CHAMPAIGN - Memorial services for Robert Abbuehl, 80, of Champaign will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at Faith United Methodist Church, North Sanctuary, 1719 S. Prospect Ave., C. The Rev. James Rhea will officiate.

Visitation will be after the service Thursday at the church's South Sanctuary.

Morgan Memorial Home, 1304 Regency Drive West, Savoy, is handling arrangements.

Mr. Abbuehl died at 4:02 a.m. Tuesday (Oct. 18, 2005) at Champaign County Nursing Home, Urbana.

He was born May 22, 1925, in Holton, Kan., a son of Ross H. and Lillian H. Volk Abbuehl. He married Patricia Burr. She preceded him in death. He later married Marilyn Carson on Oct. 6, 1978, in Champaign. She survives.

Survivors also include a son, Dan Abbuehl of Ankeny, Iowa; two stepsons, Bill Brannock of St. Joseph and Tom Brannock of Indialantic, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Susan Brannock Gaul of Urbana and Gail Brannock Ledbetter of Stanford, Mont.; a sister, Jean Oberlin of Verona, Pa.; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son and a brother.

Mr. Abbuehl was a graduate of Atchison, Kan., schools and attended St. Benedict's College in Atchison, Kan. He graduated from Indiana University in 1949, with a bachelor's degree in recreation and leisure studies and served in the Marine Corps during World War II. He had many positions in education, including director of recreation for the Champaign Park District and instructor and administrator at Parkland College. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Champaign and a member of Champaign-Urbana Noon Kiwanis Club.
