Catherine (McKitrick) Crotinger, daughter of John and Sarah McKitrick, was born in Licking county, Ohio, Nov. 15, 1830, and died in Jerome township, Union county, Ohio, March 2, 1923 aged 92 years 3 months and 15 days.

She was united in marriage to Henry Crotinger May 14, 1846, whose death occurred June 15, 1900. To this union were born ten children, of whom four, besides the husband, one son and three daughters have preceded their mother to rest. The six remaining to mourn their loss are as follows: Hiram, of Ada, Ohio who is very sick at present; Chester, of Great Bend, Kas.; Albert, of Bison, Kas., who is very low at present and will be unable to attend his mother's funeral; William H., Mrs. John W. Wenger and Viola Crotinger; all residing in Jerome township. Viola being the eldest daughter has always remained at home and has been her mother's main comfort in her declining years. Besides the children there is one brother and one sister, Jasper McKitrick and Mrs. Sarah Fuller, also thirty grandchildren, sixty-nine great-grandchildren and thirteen great-great-grandchildren.

She being one of the pioneers of Jerome township had many friends, not only in this particular community but was well known over the entire county.

Spending all her life on the farm, and having lived at her last home for the past fifty-five years. Her life was a very useful one, her congenial and friendly disposition endeared her to all, as her thoughts were always for others rather than for herself.

When her husband passed away it was a sad blow to her, and one from which she never fully recovered. They were married fifty-four years and this was a happy congenial marriage, where the home fires always burned brightly, and one of the saddest thoughts of this death is the breaking up of the old home.

Mrs. Crotinger will long be remembered as a true mother and companion always having the welfare of others uppermost in her mind. She always led a kind and Christian life. Here was the higher type of womanhood that adorns the home and builds a nation for a higher standard of civilization.

When her hour came she quietly closed her eyes to earthly scenes, and to loved ones here, to go with her angel escort whom bore her departing spirit to the "Home Over There" to meet the loved ones that have gone before.

The funeral was held at the home Sun., March 4, 1923 at 1:30 p. m. Services were conducted by Rev. A. I. Rogers of the Plain City M. E. church. Burial at Oakdale cemetery, Marysville.
