Mrs. Mary Hooker of Durham

Durham, January 4. Mrs. Mary Hooker, relict of Dr. O. Hooker, died tonight after an illness of several weeks. This woman of 82 years went to a hospital last week and underwent an operation. At her advanced age she showed remarkable vitality and hope lasted until the dying hour. She is best known over the State as the daughter of Josiah Turner, the first and sister of Joe Turner, founder of The News and Observer and one of the most unique editors that North Carolina has ever produced.
She is survived by two sons and four grandchildren. Her life was spent in Hillsboro where her brother wrote and made himself famous but came here four years ago and lived with her relatives. The funeral services will be held Thursday in Hillsboro.
