Residence Alexandria, VA.; 21 year-old confectioner; 5'8 1/2", fair complexion.
Enlisted for 12 months' service on 4/17/1864 at Alexandria, VA., he traveled 27 miles to Manassas Junction to be mustered 5/28/1861 into Captain Arthur Herbert's Company "Old Dominion Rifles", 17th Virginia Infantry as a Private. (This Company was subsequently redesignated as Company H.)

Detailed on woodcutting duty for Division 10/1861.
AWOL, Nov & Dec 1862 Roll.
Absent, Conscript Duty Nov & Dec 1863 Roll.
Transferred 7/26/1864 into Company D, 4th Virginia Cavalry.
POW, Fisher's Hill 10/9/1864; confined Harper's Ferry; sent to Point Lookout, MD. 10/13/1864; he offered to take Oath of Allegiance 3/16/1865; Oath of Allegiance between 4/12-15/1865 Pt. Lookout and released.

Postwar, as a 54 year-old widower and clerk living in Alexandria, he applied for admission 8/5/1895 into the Robert E. Lee Camp Soldiers' Home due to "Paralysis" which made him unable to "provide for and support himself". He was approved 11/14/1895; died there.

The 4th Cavalry Regiment completed its organization at Sangster's Cross Roads, Prince William County, Virginia, in September, 1861. Its members were recruited in the counties of Prince William, Chesterfield, Madison, Culpeper, Powhatan, Gouchland, Hanover, Fauquier, Buckingham, and the city of Richmond.
