Fern R. Hanes, a Prineville resident, passed away on Friday, April 10, 2009. She was 86 years of age.

Funeral Services was held on Tuesday, April 14, at 10 a.m. at The Church of God of Prophecy on Lynn Blvd. in Prineville. Pastor Richard Hargreaves of The Prineville Praise and Worship Center officiated. Committal followed at Juniper Haven Cemetery.

Fern was born in Hogoton, Stevens Co., Kansas on Dec. 23, 1922 to John Joel and Lola Ruth (Simpson) Grantham.

Fern's mother died at her birth. She was raised in Stevens Co., Kansas and attended first through eighth grade there. She married "Doc" Hanes on July 29, 1941 in Lakin, Kan., after marriage they lived in Syracuse, Kan. until 1951. They lived in Mitchell where "Doc" worked for Hudspeth. They moved to Monument in 1957 then to Prineville in 1960. She worked for Burnett Box Co. and then for Coin Millwork. She retired in 1975. She got her G.E.D. when she was 60 years old in 1982. She was a member of The Church of God of Prophecy.

She loved to garden, raise vegetables and flowers, and sold worms at her home for several years.

She is survived by her sons, Darrell Savage, LeRoy and his wife, Mary Hanes, Dean and his wife, Julia Hanes, Rick and his wife, Becky all of Prineville, Ore., Larry and his wife Verleen Hanes of Falcon, Colo., daughter, Ruby and her husband Merle Williams of Prineville, sisters, Lorene Lord of Pagosa, Springs, Colo. and Lydia Hankins of Prineville, eighteen grandchildren, thirty four great-grandchildren and nine great, great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1995, daughters, Glenda Savage, Connie Rae Hanes and grandson, Eric Burback.

Arrangements are in the care of the Prineville Funeral Home.
