Thomas was called "Long Tom" Cause he stood 6'6" and weighed almost 300 lbs.Sent to England for his early education,then moved to Sumner Co.TN,and obtained a land grant for 2000 acres of land on West Fork of Long Branch.As Thomas got older he was afflicted with Palsy and confined to a chair.His wife Lucy Basham-Simmons Was a small woman and when their house caught fire she pulled Thomas out to safety.She went back in the house to get something and her dress caught fire.Thomas burned his hands severly trying to put out Lucy's dress,she jerk away from Thomas from being scared and ran about 6 feet and collapsed and burned to death.Thomas sat there all night scaring off the wild animals until the next day.One of his Sons or Nephews found them almost sundown that same day.Thomas Died of a Cardiac Asthma Attack.
