Merlin C. Toothman "Bud" Age 73, of Godley, passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2009, at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee, IL. Born November 12, 1935 in Fairview, WV to Joseph and Winnie (Tennant) Toothman. Retired from Sears following more than 25 years of employment as an automotive mechanic. Veteran of the United States Army, having been stationed in Hawaii. He had a lifelong interest in airplanes and was working toward getting his license to fly the ultralight. Surviving are his former wife, Shirley (Welch) Toothman, Braceville; two daughters and one son, Judith (Tony) Emrich, Braceville, Sharon (Bill) Newton, Huntley, IL and Michael (Maggie) Toothman. Godley; grandchildren, Brittany, Eddie and Rachel Emrich and Steven and Kevin Newton; his mother, Winnie Toothman of Tennessee; sisters, Marlene and Catherine of Tennessee and Shirley of Ohio; nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death was his father, Joseph Toothman. Visitation will be at the R. W. Patterson Funeral Homes, Ltd., Braidwood Chapel, Sunday, August 30, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Interment with military honors will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL at a later date.
