Hannah moved from Vermont to Alabama in 1838 as a teacher. She taught two years in Wilcox County, two years at Evergreen, Conecuh County, sixteen years at Flat Creek, twenty-three years at Centerville. This makes forty-three years of service before she was forced to resign because of impaired eyesight. By that time she was teaching grandchildren of those who were her first students! When she retired, her oldest son, Henry, replaced her and she moved to Columbiana to live with her two daughters, Lucy and Isabel, who operated a flourishing school.
