He served with Capt. Jackson's Company, 6th MO Cav 1862-1865.His wife Mary applied for his pension which was approved 8-6-1865

His wife Mary died at the home of her Daughter Mrs. Nannie Nash, Fort Worth, TX, 9:30 P.M. Wednesday, August 1, 1923 at age 73 years, 5 months, 28 days.

James worked in a Saw Mill in 1870, later in life he was a farmer

November 25, 1910

James Denney, one of the oldest inhabitants of the county, died at his home north of Berryville yesterday morning at 1:30 o'clock. He had been a sufferer from rheumatism several years but the immediate cause of his death was
pneumonia.

He was 66 years, 5 months, and 6 days old. He came to this county and settled near Berryville in 1861and has made his home here ever since. He leaves a wife, two sons and four daughters.
