"Ruth Mabel Stoddard (Kimball) Weaver 1917 ~ 2009 Ruth Mabel Stoddard (Kimball) Weaver joined loved ones who had gone before her on August 1, 2009. She was born December 28, 1917 in Ogden, Utah to Edwin Cleveland Stoddard and Jennie Smith Stoddard. Her mother died during the great flu epidemic of 1918 when Ruth was eight months old. Unable to care for a tiny baby and her two year old brother, Cleve, their father sent them to live with Jennie's sister, Marie Smith Kimball. Marie and Leo Kimball later adopted both children. Ruth and Cleve were happy when their baby sister, Anna Marie Kimball was born to Marie and Leo. Following graduation from Logan High School and a year of college at Utah State, Ruth married Max Dickson Weaver. They were married on December 20, 1938 in the Logan LDS Temple. Two children later, Max left her in Logan with her mother while he fought in World War II. Following his safe return from the war, they were blessed with four more children. A woman who loved education and children, Ruth finished her Elementary Education degree at Southern Utah State College in Cedar City in 1961. She began her career in education when they moved to Orem, Utah. She taught five years at Hillcrest Elementary and 15 years at Cherry Hill Elementary before retiring in 1980. Many, many third graders were blessed to have been in her class where she not only taught them, she loved them. Full of enthusiasm and dedication to the teaching profession, Ruth found time to be involved as a Cherry Hill Elementary representative for the Alpine School District for 14 years. Other professional positions included: member of Alpine Education's Negotiation Team and delegate to the NEA Representative Assembly. She was also very active in the Retired Teachers Association as president, delegate to the Utah Education Association and was nominated as Outstanding Retired Teacher in 1997. Always an active member of the LDS Church, Ruth spent 13 years doing genealogy work, taught in Sunday School, Primary, and Relief Society as well as serving as Stake Sunday School Coordinator for the Cherry Hill Stake. She worked in the Provo Temple from 1980-1982, and she and Max served as missionaries in Nauvoo, Illinois from 1982-1984. Preceding Ruth in death were her parents, her brother Cleve, her sister Anna Marie, and several half brothers and sisters from her father's second marriage. She is survived by her beloved husband of more than 70 years, Max Dickson Weaver, their six children: Max Kimball Weaver (Janet), Cedar City, UT; Kurt Stoddard Weaver (Nancy), Cypress, California; Katherine Genee Walker (Stanley Dean), Tooele, UT; Scott Dickson Weaver (Ronda), Orem, UT; Ed Wynn Stoddard Weaver (Vickie), Cedar City, UT; and Ruth Kay Merrell (David), Provo, UT; as well as a sister Edna Maxine Crawford, Ogden, UT. Ruth also leaves behind a posterity of 39 grandchildren and their spouses as well as 89 great-grandchildren. Right now she is probably kissing at least three more children on "their feathers" as they prepare to begin their sojourn here on this earth as her great-grand-children. Ruth was a noble lady who was dearly loved and who truly lived her motto which was: "There is a destiny which makes us brothers; None goes his way alone; All that we send into the lives of others comes back into our own." Visitations will be held at the Sundberg Olpin Mortuary at 495 So. State Street in Orem, Friday, August 28, 2009 from 6 to 8 p.m. On Saturday, August 29, 2009 at 9:45 a.m. there will be a viewing at the Cherry Hills 5th Ward at 140 E. 2000 So.
