Ann Virginia Truax was born in Malaga township of Monroe county, Ohio, the daughter of Guilliem "William" Truax and Emily Mary Leek. When Ann was three her mother died, and she was sent to live with her maternal grandparents, Elisha Leek and Margaret Garwood, in Perry township of Monroe county.

She was married circa 1862 to William Piatt, and they had at least a dozen children between 1863 and 1880 when they were living in Ludlow township of Washington county, Ohio. Shortly thereafter they moved to Dunn county, Wisconsin, along with a number of allied families. William died there in the Village of Knapp on 5 Nov 1883.

Ann's second marriage was to a widower, Daniel Thatcher, originally of Pennsylvania, but he had lived in Monroe and Washington counties as well, and was in one of those allied families that came to western Wisconsin from Washington county, Ohio. They were married on 5 Dec 1877 by Charles M. Fletcher, J.P., in the Village of Knapp.

They made their home in the town of Stanton, living with various children from both of their previous marriages. By 1905 Daniel had fallen into ill health and moved in with his son of the same name in the town of Springfield in St. Croix county. He died 21 Apr 1906.

Before the death of her second husband she moved to Bonner county, Idaho, along with a number of her children. She was living in Margaret's household in 1910 and George's in 1920. She died there on 4 Apr 1922.
