October 7, 1920 -August 6, 2009

Wendell Marion Stoten, age 88, of New Castle, passed away Thursday, August 6, 2009 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born October 7, 1920 in Knightstown, Indiana to the late John M. and Ruby (Oldham) Stoten.

Wendell retired from Alleghany-Ludlum following 15 years of service. He was a Sergeant in the United States Air Force during WWII. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in New Castle, and also Sulphur Springs Masonic Lodge. Wendell was an avid farmer, loved gardening, woodworking, the outdoors, and especially enjoyed visiting with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years: Evelyn (Edwards) Stoten of New Castle; two daughters: Sharon Stoten of Indianapolis and Marilyn (husband: Denis) Whitted of Springport; a grandson: David E. Whitted of Springport; a great granddaughter.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Lowell E. Stoten; a sister: Barbara Stoten.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 10, 2009 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend Tom McGilliard officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Knightstown American Legion. Friends may call from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, August 9, 2009 at the funeral home.
