JOHN W. HAMILTON

LENOX - - John W. Hamilton, age 90, of E. Union Road, Lenox Township, Ohio, died early Monday morning, March 12, 2007, at his residence.
He was born May 30, 1916, in Lenox Township, the son of Minor S. and Mary Jane (Locy) Hamilton, and has been a lifelong resident of Lenox Township. A 1938 graduate of Ohio State University, he was a member of the marching band to do the first OSU script.
He taught Vocational Agriculture at Gustavus and Fostoria and also worked at Electro Met before establishing and operating Hamilton’s Furniture and Appliance Store in Jefferson in 1946, retiring in 1986.
John and his wife, Irene, wintered in Wellington, Fla., and were active participants in the Winter Equestrian Festival from 1970-2005. He enjoyed flying planes and showing horses. Mr. Hamilton was a member of the Lenox Federated Church. He served as President of the Jefferson School Board in the 1960s and was instrumental in the building of the new high school. He was a former member of the Jefferson Rotary Club and was recognized as Lenox Citizen of the Year in 1983.
Survivors include his wife, Irene (Luce) Hamilton, whom he married on January 1, 1939, at the Lenox Federated Church; three children, Charles R. (Cyndi) Hamilton of Jefferson, David L. (Paige) Hamilton of Knoxville, Tenn., and Joyce A. (Rick) Park of Jefferson; a daughter-in-law, Vada Hamilton Dular of Highland Heights; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Richard J. Hamilton; two grandchildren, Ann Marie Hamilton and Jeffrey Jackson; and two sisters, Phyllis Hall and Harriet Hamilton.
Funeral Services will be held 12 p.m. on Thursday, March 15, 2007, at the Jefferson Home of FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS, INC., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, Ohio, with Pastor Michael Williams and Pastor David Rodgers officiating. Dr. Charlie Curie will offer the eulogy. Burial will be in Lenox Center Cemetery.

Calling Hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 14, 2007, and Thursday from 10:30 until time of service at the Funeral Home.
