Funeral services for Claud Aaron French, 78, of Sweetwater, formerly of Roscoe, were to be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 24, 2009, at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Rev. James Baker officiating, directed by McCoy Funeral Home of Sweetwater, with burial in Roscoe Cemetery. Visitation was held at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009.
Mr. French died Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009, at Abilene Regional Hospital in Abilene.
He was born on Aug. 23, 1930, in Oglesby, Texas and married Jimmy Ruth Bourland on Oct. 24, 1969. She died Jan. 15, 2001. He was then married to Jo Ann Lollar Hobbs on June 21, 2003 in Sweetwater.
He was a member of the Roscoe Church of Christ and lived in Roscoe from 1940 to 2003 before moving to Sweetwater where he lived until his death. He was a brick mason and owned and operated M&B Grocery in Roscoe for 16 years. He loved playing music with his band Claud French & the Drifters, and loved playing golf with his friends at Sweetwater Country Club.
Survivors include his wife, Jo Ann French of Sweetwater; two sons, Mike French and wife Stacey of Abilene and Ricky Decker of Roscoe; two daughters, Debbie Price of Lake Sweetwater and Kelley Miller and husband Mike of Sweetwater; one stepdaughter, Diane Russell and husband Jim of Dublin, Texas; a stepson, Benny Hobbs and wife Ronda of Sweetwater; six grandchildren, Tyson Price, Callie Price, Micah and Makayla Miller, Abby French and Avery French; one great-grandchild, Tyleigh Price; six step-grandchildren; and nine step-great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Ray French; and his parents.
Pallbearers will be Neil Moore, Robert Allen, Donald Price, Kevin Crosson, Ken Davidson and Lyndall Underwood.
