Gloria J. Bassler, 62, Washington, died at 3:32 a.m. Monday at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes.

Born March 9, 1944, in Washington, she was the daughter of Oliver and Minnie (Schooley) Charles.

She attended Washington High School and was a member of First Baptist Church in Washington. She had been a nurse's aid before she became disabled.

She was an RSVP volunteer, a member of the VFW Auxiliary, the Eagles and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Surviving are one son, Rod Taylor of Greenwood; two daughters, Lisa Watkins of Washington and Sherri Rice of Nashville; a brother, Steve Charles of Washington; four sisters, Beverly Polzin, Marcella Gray and Grace Bright, all of Washington, and Gail Burkhart of Odon; grandchildren Kory, Kevin and Kirsten McDaniel of Nashville, Nathan and Meghan Taylor of Greenwood and Andrew and Amelia Watkins of Washington.

Preceding her in death were her parents; one grandson, Joey McDaniel; and one brother, Bud Charles.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Ed Lee Mortuary with Rev. Bill Malott officiating. Burial will be in Wheatland Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home..
