James F. Bowen, age 96, of Hersey formerly of Sears, passed away Friday, April 3, 2009 at home with his loving family at his side. He was born June 26, 1912 to John and Ella Mae (Parrish) Bowen in Mt. Pleasant, MI.While attending Clare High School James worked at a store in Clare for his room and board until his graduation. On September 15, 1934 he married Maybelle E. Chapman in Saginaw where they made their home. In the early 70's James retired from G.M. and they moved to the Sears area in 1977 where he resided until 2000. When his health began to decline his daughter Karen became his caregiver at her home and has welcomed the company of her father for the last 8 years. James was dedicated to his family and was always there. When he was able he liked to fish and looked forward to playing cards with family and friends.
James is survived by his loving daughter Karen (Ronny) Hylton of Hersey, 7 grandchildren and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Maybelle in 1985, children; Harlan, Evelyn, Maclyn and Marilyn Lawrence, grandson Alvin Welch, great grandson Jeffrey Welch, a brother Leland "Red" Bone and an infant sister Jane Bowen. Funeral services for James will take place 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton with the family greeting friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will follow at North Brinton Cemetery in Lake.
