Russell H. Cragin 1921 - 1999, =77, of Superior, Wis., died Monday, May 31, 1999, at Lakehaven Manor Nursing Home in Duluth.

He was born on Sept. 11, 1921, in Montello, Wis. He was a Superior, Wis., resident for most of his life. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Okinawa. He retired as a detective with the Douglas County Sheriff's Department with over 24 years of service. He was a member of Holy Assumption Catholic Church and the Moose Lodge of West Duluth. He helped form the 4-H Club in Oliver, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Amanda Cragin; two brothers, Kenneth and Bernard; a sister, Beatrice; grandchildren, Traci, and Greg Hansen and Bob Dalton and a son-in-law, Larry LaJoie.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Cecelia; 10 daughters, Jeanne (Lawrence) Atkinson of Superior, Wis., Sharyn (Albin) Hansen of Superior, Wis., Jacky (Clarence) Callen of Toivola, Pam (Daniel) Rude of Oliver, Wis., Vicki (Dennis) Merrill of Menasha, Wis., Betty (Kerry) Moceri of Rapid City, S.D., Linda LaJoie of Madison, Wis., Shelly (Gary) Erickson of Green Bay, Wis., Colleen (Gary) Carr of Oliver, Wis., and Jill Bachman of Superior, Wis.; three sons, Russell (Laura) Cragin of Menomonie, Michael (Renee) Cragin of Carlton and Patrick Cragin of Oliver, Wis.; 37 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

A memorial mass was held today, Saturday, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Assumption Catholic Church with the Rev. Ron Olson as celebrant. Inurnment will be at Calvary Cemetery where military honors will be accorded by the Henry S. Blomberg VFW Post 847. Arrangements by Downs Funeral Home.
