Mary Ann Younger Whitaker, 85, Quinter, died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2007, at Gove County Medical Center, Quinter. She was born April 2, 1922, in Ellis County to Joseph and Cunnigunda (Korbe) Augustine.

She married Michael Andrew Younger May 30, 1939, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays. He died Sept. 5, 1967. She later married Charles G. Whitaker Oct. 30, 1971, in Collyer. He died July 13, 2004.

She was a cook for many years, working at the hospital, IBP and the senior center, all in Emporia. She also worked for Gove County Medical Center as a cook. She retired 11 years ago in Emporia.

Survivors include a son, Paul Younger and wife, Beverly, of Firestone, Colo.; three daughters, Patricia Falley and husband, Warren, of Quinter, Delores Worthington and husband, Roy, of Manhattan, and Mary Zerr and husband, Bob, of Quinter; four brothers, Marvin Augustine and wife, Rozanne, of Hays, Francis Augustine and wife, Bernadette, of Salina, Robert Augustine and wife, Luelle, of Hays, and LaVern Augustine and wife, Betty, of Hays; two sisters, Josephine Urban, Ellis, and Norma Weigel, Hays; two sisters-in-law, Ernestine Augustine, Munjor, and Rosie Augustine, Hays; 17 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, son Gerald Younger, brothers Alfred and Ralph Augustine, and sister Lucille Younger.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Park with Fr. Mark Berland officiating; burial at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Park. Visitation and vigil service are from 5 to 7:30 p.m. this evening at Schmitt Funeral Home, Quinter.

Memorials are suggested to Gove County Medical Center or Masses in care of Schmitt Funeral Home, 901 S. Main, Quinter, 67752.
