FIELD FUNERAL HELD THURSDAY
Funeral services for Dr. Roscoe Conklin Field, 63, pioneer physician and civic leader of Yamhill county who died Monday in a Portland hospital, were held Thursday afternoon at the Sheridan Methodist church with Dr. Perry Hopper of Portland officiating.
Born in Sheridan October 23, 1878, Dr. Field spent his early boyhood at the Grand Ronde Indian agency, where his father, Dr. John Field, was agency physician and occasionally took his son on the rounds of the tepees of ailing Indians.
Friend of Indians
The boy followed in his father's footsteps, and, like his parents, became a great friend of the Indians.
He obtained his earliest schooling in the Grand Ronde mission school and later graduated from the McMinnville academy and college, now Linfield college. He completed his medical schooling at the University of Oregon medical school in 1905 and took his graduate work at University of Louisville, where hsi father had attended.
He married Miss Mary B. Brown at Sheridan September 30, 1901.
Prominent in Civic Affairs
In addition to his profession, Dr. Field was identified in Yamhill county as a civic leader. He was Sheridan city councilman for eight years, member of the school board eight yeears, mayor for 12 years, ending in 1935, and active as a member of the Sheridan chamber of commerce. He was a Mason, serving as master of the Sheridan lodge for many yeears, and held membership in various medical societies, Knights Templar, Al Kader Shrineand Odd Fellows.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Mrs. J. Boatner Chamberlain, Portland, and a son, Dr. John Edward Field, Louisville, Ky.
