Elizabeth was born in Tennessee, the daughter of Thomas Horner Temple, Lt. (1766-1852) and Mary Jane Moore (1767-1859). She married John Oliver (1792-?) in 1816, and John and Elizabeth had one daughter, Sally, born in 1817. No other information is currently known about John or Sally. John died within a few years of his marriage to Elizabeth.
After her husband John Oliver's early death, she married Reverend Allen Gillespie Gallaher (1798-1865) in 1822, and, in the 1830s, they moved their family to Ralls County, MO. She had six children live to survive her, and three who predeceased her as young children.

The epitaph for Rev. Allen Gillespie Gallaher and Elizabeth Temple Gallaher reads "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord." Rev. 14:13
