Gonzales inquirer Jan. 28, 1892

Waelder, January 27, 1892
Editors Inquirer. A sad tragedy occurred near our town yesterday about noon, in which Mr. E. Halliburton, well known to the people of this county as being a some what dangerous man, met his death at the hands of his oldest son and Geo. F. Foster, a brother in law of Mr. Halliburton. The tragedy arose over the fact that the deceased had been abusing his wife, which cruelty the son and brother called at the house of Mr. Halliburton to resent, and upon Mr. Halliburton's return home from town, he found his slayers there and upon the subject being approached, the trouble arose which resulted in Mr. Halliburton being almost riddled with buckshot, there appearing about fourty shot holes in his body. The boys say that Halliburton shot three times before they fired their first shot. The inquest has not yet been completed, but it appears that no other persons were present excep Foster and Halliburton's two eldest sons. The wife had left the place sometime before the tragedy occurred.
