Prominent Merchant In King Ferry For Many Years

The death of Fred T. Atwater, a life resident of King Perry, N.Y. occurred Friday evening, September 30, 1932, after several years of ill health. Mr. Atwater was very active in all constructive affairs about the village and was a willing worker until ill health made it difficult for him to walk and partially confined him to his home.

He was born March 31, 1864 and was joined in marriage to Florence Bradley January 6, 1886. He is survived by his two daughters, Mrs. Harry Ehler, Ardsley, N. Y. and Anna Atwater is teaching at Summit, N.J., one son, Ward B. Atwater of Ithaca, N.Y., two grandchildren, Carlton and Donald.

Mr. Atwater had always been in the mercantile business In King Ferry, he operated and owned a store of his own up until about 1917 when the
three stores in the village were merged into one and known as The Atwater Co. He withdrew from the Atwater Co. a few years later and since that had been connected in business.

He was an elder in the Presbyterian church until his health forbade him to this duty.

At building of the present high school building, he was one of the supporters in the project for higher education for the boys and girls of the neighborhood at home. He was a member of the board of education for several years spent much of his time starting the institution which now has grown into what we know as King Ferry Central school.

He was very well thought of and loved by everyone in the community. He had business dealings with many people during the many years of his
career and yet was the best liked and most highly spoken of man you could ever wish to meet.

The funeral was held from his late home Monday afternoon, October 3,
by Dr. W. T. Thayer. Burial in the family plot in West Genoa cemetery.
