James C. Furst
Of 236 W. Linn St., Bellefonte, a former Centre County judge, died at 12:05 p.m. Monday in Centre County Hospital, Bellefonte, where he was admitted three days earlier. He was born Dec. 1, 1882, at Bellefonte, a son of Judge and Caroline Watson (Chamberlin) Furst. On April 1, 1913, he married Adele Harrar of Williamsport, who survives, along with two sons, Austin O. of Bellefonte and Ellwood H. of Westfield, N.J., and six grandchildren. Judge Furst graduated from Bellefonte Adacemy in 1901 and attended Princeton University, read law with his father and was admitted to the bar in Pennsylvania in 1906. He served as district attorney from 1912 to 1920 and was appointed judge of Centre County in 1927 following the death of Judge Harry Keller. Judge Furst was active in civic groups in the community. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Friends will be received in the Wetzler Funeral Home, Bellefonte, today from 7 to 9 p.m.
