The first-named founder of Gloversville, he came from Vermont. He was born April 6, 1757. He married Laurana Holmes, January 8, 1783, who was born January 17, 1762, and died October 23, 1850. His children were Lemuel, Jennison, Mary and Sarah. Samuel Giles died October 20, 1841. Some thirty-five years ago one of his descendants was a well-known merchant in Gloversville. Samuel Giles was a deacon in the Presbyterian Church.
