Nov 2001: Fred 'Shorty' Hodge, 77, of Kegley, died on Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2001 in a Bluefield hospital. Born 13 October 1924, in Worth, he was a son of the late Elijah and Julia Hodge. He had been a resident of Kegley for 12 years and attended the Church of God. He was retired from Cannelton Coal Company in Superior as a coal miner, and was a member of the UMWA.He was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah Lawson Hodge; and three brothers, Raymond Jess Hodge, Buddy Hodge, and Reggie Hodge. Survivors include one sister, Helen Wilburn of New Providence, Pennsylvania; several nieces and nephews; and special caregivers. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with the Rev. Danny Scott officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens, Bluefield, Virginia, where friends and family will serve as pallbearers. (Bluefield Daily Telegraph)
