Clara Gray, age 90, of Boise, passed away on March 15, 2016, surrounded by her son and granddaughter.
Clara was born February 20, 1926 in Kuna, Idaho, to Carl and Margaret Huntsinger. She was the oldest of five children. Clara graduated from Kuna High School in 1944 and soon after married the love of her life, Glen Gray, of Boise, with whom she was married for 57 years, until his passing in 2001.
Clara was a farmer's wife and worked hard throughout her life. Clara made many meals for farm hands, drove a corn truck, cared for chickens, and even helped out in the dairy barn.
In addition to her activities on the farm, Clara worked as a seamstress, quilting, seaming, and sewing for her enjoyment, for extra income, and for the benefit of friends and family. Clara was the leader of the Nimble Fingers 4-H club for over 35 years helping many young women learn to cook and sew. For many years, Clara sewed horse blankets for winners of the horse races at Les Bois Park and, for several years, she even sewed bears for the children at the hospital.
As a mother, Clara was a room mom at her son's school and was active in the PTA. In her community, Clara was a grange officer for the Ten Mile grange, a member of the Ten Mile Community Church, and the Ten Mile Extension Club. Clara worked many years at the Western Idaho Fair as a clerk, in the barn taking entries for fair exhibits, and worked as part of the large animal sale.
Additionally, Clara worked on election boards. Clara was also recipient of the 1977 Meridian Chamber of Commerce "Woman of the Year".
After her husband passed away, Clara stayed active.
She gardened and planted flowers every year, she traveled with friends, she played Pinochle once a month with her card club, and she volunteered over 5000 hours at St. Luke's in Meridian. In 2005, Clara was the Grand Marshal for the Meridian Dairy Parade.
Clara greatly enjoyed spending time with her family and her two great-grandsons who helped to keep her young.
Clara is survived by her son, Maury (Betty) Gray, of Boise; granddaughter, Stacy (John) Roice, of Boise; grandson, Neil (Valerie) Thompson, of Boise; two great-grandsons: Noah and Adam Roice; great-granddaughter, Riley; two stepgrandchildren: Tyler Faucette and Haley Faucette, both of Las Vegas, NV; her sister, Doris (Aden) Wheeler, of Meridian; brother, Earl Huntsinger, of Caldwell; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Clara was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Gray; parents: Carl and Margaret Huntsinger; and two brothers: Carl and Johnny Huntsinger.
The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses, CNA's and doctors at St. Luke's Meridian who provided outstanding care for Clara during her final hours.
A viewing for family and friends will be held from 3:00-5:00 PM, Sunday, March 20, 2016 at Accent Funeral Home, 1303 N Main St, Meridian. A private burial for family and close friends will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, March 21, 2016 at Meridian Cemetery.
