Lawson married Miranda C. Teague and they had five children before he was killed in Piedmont, Virginia during the Civil War. Their children were Elizabeth J. (1853), James M. (1854); Luzia A. (1855); George Wiley (1858); and Sofina A. (1860), all very young when their father went to battle. He served in Company E. of the 69th Regiment of NC.
