Vic Hyde, 82, of Athens, went to be home with the Lord on Monday morning, Aug. 17, 2009, at his residence with his loving family at his side.

A native and well-known resident of McMinn County, and most recently of the Union Hill Community, he was a son of the late William "Bill" Hyde and Amanda Hyde Swafford and attended Double Springs Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Floyd Swafford; and one son, Charles Edward Hyde. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved horses, horseback riding, wagon trains, boating and motorcycles. He also called square dances and was a former saw mill owner and operator.

Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Leatinia "Teena" Ann Hicks and husband, David, of Athens, and Lisa Denise Hyde and friend, Karen West, both of Athens; one granddaughter, Ashley Ann Cole of Athens; one very special great-grandson, Aiden Gage Randolph; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Herman and Zora Swafford, Harry and Diane Swafford and Hoyt and Vicki Swafford, all of Riceville; one sister, Dottie Stevens of Rising Fawn, Ga.; his former wife and lifelong companion, Nettie Marcus Hyde of Athens; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Ziegler Funeral Home with the Rev. Ralph Swafford officiating. Burial will follow in Short Creek Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Danny Henry, Frank "Bo" Henry, Lowell Vaughn, Leuty Vaughn, Rudy Swafford and Bobby Carter. Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne "PeeWee" Shell, Tim "Maverick" Boe, Allen Randolph and Rocky Wright.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
