KNOX -- Services for Charles F. Gardner, 77, of 103 N. Prettyman, who died early Monday morning at Starke Memorial Hospital after a brief illness, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Msgr. Vincent Lengerich will officiate. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the Braman & Son Memorial Chapel, where a rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. At 8 p.m., the Knox Volunteer Fireman memorial service will be conducted by Duane Lance of Wanatah.
He was born on May 13, 1906, in Nappanee and lived most of his life in the Knox area. On June 10, 1950 in Walkerton, he married Jeannette Fitzpatrick. She survives with four daughters, Mrs. Gloria Phipps of Fort Wayne, Mrs. Suszanne Gilliland of Madison, Ind., Mrs. Cecelia Hunter of Lafayette, Ind., and Michele Butler of Knox; a son, Charles Jr. of Buck Creek; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Josephine Wilson of Nappanee and Mrs. Mary Orn of Milford; and a brother, John of Milford. He was a retired engineer from Beatty Memorial Hospital. He was a member of the church and the Holy Name Society. He was a 37-year veteran of the Volunteer Firemen's Association, an eight-year member of the Knox City Council and a member of the Knox Chamber of Commerce. He was a past president of the Knox Kiwanis Club, and a third degree Grand Knight and fourth degree Faithful Navigator in the Knights of Columbus.
