RITES TODAY FOR FORMER MARKET OWNER

Funeral services were held today for Norman W. Knight, 86, a resident of Gladwin county for 57 years. Mr. Knight was born in Van Wert, Ohio January 6, 1870. He married the former Belle Hoy, November 19, 1891 in Van Wert and came to Gladwin in 1899. They settled on a farm in Sage township and he carried mail for three years from 1912 to 1915. He served on Riley school board for many years. For 18 years Mr. Knight operated a meat market in Gladwin, where Hanna's Cleaners is now located, selling out in 1941, when he retired. He passed away at his home Monday, March 19, after several months illness.
Surviving are his wife, Belle; six sons, Harry and Carl, of Gladwin, Alonzo and Paul of Flint, Daniel of Houghton Lake and Walter of Harrison; two daughters, Mrs. Frank Brink of Foristel, Mo., and Mrs. Elmer Koontz of Gladwin; 19 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren; three sisters Mrs. Ruby Snyder, Mrs. Mattie Webb and Miss Laura Knight, all of Gladwin; and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Sarah Knight of Gladwin. One sister, Mrs. Lillian Walters, and one brother, Jasper preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held at the Gladwin Free Methodist Church at 2 p.m. with the Rev. F. E. Voller officiating. Pallbearers were the grandsons Glenn, Daniel, Donald and Robert Knight, Robert Whisler and Floyd Koontz. Burial was in Highland cemetery. Gladwin County Record dated 03-21/1956 Column - 4 Page - 1
