SURGOINSVILLE - Mollie Kate Cooper, age 99, Surgoinsville, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999, at Hawkins County Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.

She was a native of Scott County, VA, but had spent most of her adult life in Hawkins County. She attended the Amis Chapel United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dee Cooper; two sons, Cecil Cooper and J. D. Cooper; parents, Mack and Orlina Kerns Calton; and several brothers and sisters.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Lena and Jack Altom, Rogersville, Imogene and Rev. Hugh Ratledge, Church Hill; four sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas and Betty Cooper, Haynes and Juanita Cooper, Robert and Betty Cooper, all of Surgoinsville, and Roy and Kay Cooper, Church Hill; nine grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; five step-great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Eugene Calton, Cosby; two sisters, Oma Amis, Surgoinsville, and Maude Cole, Church Hill; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are 6 - 8 p.m. Thursday at the Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the residence of her sons, Robert Cooper, 213 Creek Road, Surgoinsville, and Douglas Cooper, 255 Amis Chapel Road, Surgoinsville.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 8 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with Revs. Bill Porter, Paul Lane and Billy Gillespie officiating.

Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 1, 1999, at the Bethel Cemetery.
