Born Oct. 13, 1962, in Mt. Carmel, Ill., he was the son of Gary W. Painter and Lois Jean (Deisher) Bennett.
He was a 1981 graduate of Martinsville High School.
Gary worked for the City of Martinsville in the sanitation department.
He enjoyed Indiana University sports and the Indianapolis Colts.
He was a member of the First Evangelical Methodist Church in Martinsville.
Survivors include his mother, Lois Jean (Deisher) Bennett of Martinsville; one sister, Cathy Battin of Martinsville; one brother, Roger Painter of Broken Arrow, Okla.; two stepbrothers, Greg Bennett and David Bennett, both of Martinsville; and special friend, Pam Atherton.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gary W. Painter, and his stepfather, William Bennett.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Costin Funeral Chapel in Martinsville with the Rev. Kevin Able officiating. Burial will be at New South Park Cemetery in Martinsville.
