ALLEN JACOB EDWARDS

Allen Jacob Edwards, son of William and Elizabeth McDowell Edwards, was born in Lucas county, Iowa, Aug. 14, 1866, and departed this life at the Baker Nursing Home in Chariton, Iowa, November 17, 1945, at the age of 79 years, 3 months and 3 days.

With the exception of a few years residence in Page county, Mr. Edward's entire life has been spent in Lucas county, the past thirty of which his home having been in Williamson.

He is survived by three brothers, Elmer Grant Edwards, J. Franklin Edwards and Robert Edwards; a sister, Mrs. Flora Belle Wright and many other relatives and friends. A sister, Mrs. June Blair, preceded him in death March 8, 1927.

Mr. Edwards was an industrious man, honest in his dealings with his fellow men, a good neighbor and a loyal friend. He never married. His interest in his nephews and nieces was one of his most marked characteristics and no greater joy did he find than in contributing to their happiness. It was their custom to make frequent visits to his bachelor home.

He was always a great reader of the Bible and, while he never made a public confession of his faith until during his last illness, he always stood firmly for the right. During his last illness, when his weary body was wracked with pain and suffering, he often expressed his longing to go to his Maker, and he welcomed the prayers and consolation of the ministry and his Christian friends.

The funeral services were conducted by Dr. W. H. Meredith, of the Chariton Methodist church, at the Miley funeral home on November 18. The burial was in the Oxford cemetery. Music was rendered by Mrs. Hilma Webb and Mrs. Alex Wallace. The pall bearers were E. B. Shore, Guy Mason, Alex Wallace, Frank Boothe, W. A. Miller and Francis McDonald.

It is with regret and sorrow that the relatives and friends note the passing of Uncle Al Edwards. He will be greatly missed by his many friends.
