Caallie was a member of “Los Floridanos”. She was a descendant of the founding families of St. Augustine, Florida during the First Spanish period (1565-1673). The settlers who arrived at that time whose last names were Sanchez, Solano (Solana), Aguilar, Ruiz and Diaz settled in the Presidio de San Agustin. Enduring many hardships, their efforts established St. Augustine as the first continuously occupied European city in the United States. After Spain ceded the Florida colony to Britain after the Seven Years war (1763), approximately 3100 of the residents relocated to Cuba. Two of the remaining settlers, Manuel Solana and Francisco Xavier Sanchez, stayed to handle affairs and manage unsold property for the expats. Many of their descendants remain in the Florida area.
