His father was called to McComb, MS to preach in 1935, and then to Winston County to preach. Truett entered Winston Co. schools and graduated from Louisville High School in 1950. At the age of 17, he was in the National Guard and when the Korean War broke out, Truett transferred to the U. S. Air Force. In 1975 he was with the Mississippi Cattlemens Association where he served as president 3 different times in 9 years.
In 1980 and 1981 Truett raised money for the MS Society, organizing the MS chapter in Webster County. During these years he was instrumental in getting handicap access to public buildings and functions. For instance, the ramp on the north side of the courthouse, the Eupora and East Webster School gymnasiums, and the Eupora Hospital restrooms. Louise died in 1992.
