AILENE D. NEAL, 82, of Arkansas City, Kansas, and former Winfield, Kansas resident, passed away Tuesday morning, August 18, 2009 at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center in Arkansas City.
Born on February 21, 1927 in Wellington, Kansas, she was the daughter of Arthur and Orpha (Clift) Hull. She was raised and received her education Cedar Vale Kansas and graduated from Cedar Vale High School in 1944.

She was united in marriage on May 2, 1945 to Delbert Lee Neal in Winfield, Kansas. The couple farmed in Sumner County for a number of years before moving to Arkansas City in 1956. In 1959 they moved to Winfield where Mr. Neal was employed at Central Dairy Products Company. The couple purchased the business in 1962 and it became Neal Locker Service. Ailene was employed at Winfield Resthaven as a dietary aide and later worked at Good Samaritan Village as a certified nurses aide. Ailene also worked at the Sadie Darr Nursing Home as a dietary aide. She was employed for 25 years at Boogarts in Winfield as a cashier. In 1994 she began work at Wal-Mart as a greeter and retired in 2001. Mr. Neal preceded her in death on December 21, 1988. She had resided at Medicalodge since November of 2006.

Ailene was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Winfield and past member of Walnut Valley Quilt Guild. She loved spending time with her family, embroidery and collecting books and magazines. She also loved to cook for family gatherings.

Her family includes: Her sons: Jim L. Neal and wife Beverly of Winfield, KS; Clarence A. Neal and wife Karen of Winfield KS; and Thomas W. Neal and wife Deb of Winfield, KS; Her daughter: Trisha Warner and husband Gregory of Derby, KS; Her 8 grandchildren: Jimmy Neal and wife Brenda, Barry Neal and wife Lorace, John Neal and wife Linda, Lori Stockton and husband Jake, Heather Webb, Dawn Flower, Michael Neal and wife Wendy, and Stefanie Neal; Her 2 step-grandchildren: Justin King and Melissa Abington; Her great-grandchildren: Katie Neal, Jacob Neal, Jackie Neal, Mallyssa Stockton, Rita Stockton, Calvin Stockton, Clint & Cody Neal, Ashton Nguyen, Cheyenna Bercaw and Timber Neal; Her step-great grandchildren: Chelsea and Jeremy Miller and Amanda Honeycutt; and Her great-great grandchild: Tyler Abington. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her brothers; Cecil, Roscoe, Sam and Joe; and her sisters, Annie Tate, Freda Sharpsteen and Erva Riggie.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, August 22, 2009 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5:00 to 9:00 P.M., Friday, August 21, 2009. The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., that evening.

A memorial has been established in Ailene's name for CASA. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
