Vida Carolyn Howell Roberts

June 7, 1931 - August 9, 2009 Vida Carolyn Howell Roberts, 78, of O'Brien, went to be with her Lord on August 9, 2009, at her home following a long illness. Carolyn was born in Jacksonville, Florida, where she lived until she was 14, before moving to O'Brien where she met and married her high school sweetheart, Albert L. Roberts. They raised their family of four children in Jacksonville where they lived for 29 years before retiring back to their farm in Suwannee County.She is survived by her devoted husband of 60 years; two sons, Don and Dale; and two daughters, Diane and Denise. Don and Sherry Roberts live in Gainesville, Dale and Christina Roberts live in Jacksonville, Diane and Barry Williams live in Palatka, and Denise and Ken Thurston live in Tallahassee. She has seven grandchildren : Jaime Hampton, Jaclyn Parker, Chad Williams, Chris Thurston, Shaun Thurston, Danielle Wisenbaugh and Nicole Roberts; and eight great-grandchildren.She is preceded in death by her parents, Sim and Gertrude Howell, and two brothers, Jerry and Richard Howell.Through the years, Carolyn served her church as pianist, vocalist, and director of children's choirs. She developed and directed a Kindergarten program at Riverview Baptist Church in Jacksonville where she was an active member for many years. She is currently a member of O'Brien Baptist Church. For more than 30 years, she taught private piano lessons in her home. She always enjoyed spending time with and teaching her own children and grandchildren piano, sewing, cooking, crocheting, knitting and swimming. Her other past-times included quilting and traveling to gospel or bluegrass music festivals with her husband.Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, August 14, at O'Brien Baptist Church with the Rev. George Fryar officiating. Interment will follow in the O'Brien Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the O'Brien Cemetery Fund.Daniels Funeral Home of Branford is in charge of arrangements.
