Cornish was the son of Samuel Glasgow Copper and Fanny Martha Ninerick. He married Emily Jane Shinn on Nov 23, 1862 in Miami County, Indiana. From this union they had seven children.

Children:

James Alfred "Alf" Copper b. Jul 1865
Mary C Copper b. 12 May 1866
Sarah Jane "Sallie" Copper b. Feb 1869
David Elmer Copper b. 14 Mar 1874
Arza Alva "Ted" Copper b. 08 May 1878
George Cornish Copper, Jr. b. 04 Jun 1880
John Emison Copper b. 26 Feb 1882

Cornish and Emily lived most of their life in Indiana, but were living in Missouri in 1900. It is believed that Cornish with his daughter Mary and sons George and John moved to Reydon, Oklahoma in 1901. I believe Emily died before this move.
