She was born in Hickory, and died in Florida.
She was married three times: George Page, Andrew Whitener, and James K. Snelling. She had 5 children by her first husband.
Ophelia Self Page Snelling, of Clearwater, Fla., formerly of Hickory, went home to be with her Lord on Nov. 1, 2005.

She was born to Perry and Mamie Self on Jan. 28, 1917 in Hickory, NC. She was the youngest daughter and the last to survive in her family.

She had four brothers, Glenn, Ralph, Edwin, and Fred Self; five sisters, Annie Deaton, Margarette (Pat) Kindle, Christina (Tina) Hollar; Eva Bolch, and Mary L. Self.

Her first marriage of 41 years was to George Raby Page, Sr., with five children surviving, Gail P. and Ralph Speagle, George Raby, Jr. and Shirley Page, Sandra Page Williams, Gary Allen Page, and Michael Perry Page, Sr. Also surviving are fourteen grandchildren: seventeen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Her second marriage was to Andrew Whitener (deceased) of Hickory, with three step children: Jerry and Janey Whitener, Annette Metcalf, and Randy and Sue Whitener, and a number of grandchildren.

Her last marriage was to James K. Snelling of Clearwater, Fla., with four step children: Edward (deceased) and Janet Snelling, Hilda Snelling, Marjorie S. and Joe Frigon, and Eric and Sue Snelling; and a number of grandchildren.

She was a faithful Christian all of her life, also volunteering at her church, and was an avid shuffleboard player for Alcove Park before her illness. She always said she was blessed with three families; her immediate family, Skycrest Baptist family, and her Alcove Park family. She was truly blessed with many friends.

The funeral will be held Sunday, Nov. 6, 2005, at 3 p.m. in Bass-Smith Funeral Home chapel, with the family receiving friends from 1 to 3 p.m. and the Rev. William (Bill) Marr officiating at the services.
