Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 29, 1996 at 1 p.m. at Greenville Memorial A. M. E. Zion Church, with the pastor, Dr. George H. McNeely, officiating. Visitation will precede the service, beginning at 12 noon. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn WEst Cemetery.
Mrs. Watermann, a native of Charlotte, was the eldest of five daughters born to the late Jerome Platts and Ethel Foster Platts . She received her formal education in the public schools of Charlotte, graduating from WEst Charlotte Senior High School . She earned a B.S. degree in chemistry from Talladega College, pursued graduate studies in bio-chemistry at Columbia University, and further studies in education at UNCC.
She was a chemistry teacher at Myers Park High School . At Columbia University, Mrs. Watermann was employed in the Department of Urology, the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology, and the Laboratory of Bio-medical and Environmental Sciences. Earlier employment also included UCLA's Department of Environmental Science. While serving as Senior REsearch Associate, she authored and co-authored several articles which were published in the National Science Magazine.
She was a member of NSA and several other national and local science education associations, NEA, NCEA, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
To cherish her memory, she leaves her husband, William T. Watermann; mother, Ethel F. Platts of Charlotte; sisters, Elaine P. Stroud (James) of Charlotte; Gloria P. Taylor of Atlanta, GA; Linda P. Harley (LaVel) of Parssipany, NJ; Brenda P. Worthy of Charlotte; step-children, Kenneth A. Watermann (Renita) of Atlanta, GA; William T. Watermann, Jr. of Charlotte; aunts, Marian F. Venter and Goldwyn F. Harris both of East Providence, RI; Julia F. Ford (Eddie) of Philadelphia, PA; Jacqueline F. Williams (Worth), Darnell P. Mitchell, Madgalene W. Foster, all of Charlotte; Lillian S. Foster of Mira Loma, CA; and a host of other closeknit relatives and friends.
