Henry H. Haberkamp, 60 years old, a veteran member of the Roselle village board and supervisor of Highway Maintenance for DuPage County for the last 10 years, died Wednesday evening at his home in Roselle, following a five-month illness.
He was born in Anhausen, Hanover, Germany, on Oct. 21, 1877, and came to this country with his parents as a child. He had resided in DuPage County, in the Wheaton and Roselle region, for more than 50 years. Mr. Haberkamp was a farmer for many years, but since 1922 had been an employee of the DuPage County Highway Department.
He was married to Miss Lena Backhaus on Sept 4, 1904, in the Churchville Evangelical Lutheran Church at Addison, her death occurring 10 years ago. Eleven children survive. They are Mrs. Pauline Knicker of Elmhurst, Louise Haberkamp of Hinsdale, Mrs. Edna Dotterman of Roselle, Wilbert Haberkamp of Roselle, Mrs. Viola Etter of Itasca, Mrs. Selma Fiene of Addison, Miss Rose Haberkamp of Chicago, Mrs. Hilda Alleman of Roselle, Lawrence Haberkamp of Hinsdale, Miss Luella Haberkamp of Itasca, and Harvey Haberkamp of Roselle. There are also five sisters and two brothers, namely; Mrs. Julia Rotermund of Elmhurst, Fred Haberkamp of Bloomingdale, Mrs. Emma Assmann of Elmhurst, Mrs. Louise Fiene of Elmhurst, Mrs. Meta Fiene of Addison, Mrs. Helen Wolkenhauer of Elmhurst, and Ernest Haberkamp of Elmhurst. Thirteen grandchildren also survive. The funeral service will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 from the Roselle Lutheran Church, with the Rev, W.H. Mehlberg officiating. Burial will be in Elm Lawn Cemetery Elmhurst.
