Evangeline Emma Scholz, 97, of Grand Rapids, MI, formerly of New Holstein, WI died peacefully Thursday May 24, 2012 in Grand Rapids. She was born August 12, 1914 in the town of Meeme to the late William & Helena (Fischer) Meyer. She attended Mineral Springs Elementary, Kiel High School and Manitowoc County Normal Teachers College, and went on to teach for several years at Mineral Springs School.

Evangeline married William F. Scholz at Zion Lutheran Church in Louis Corners near Cedar Lake on July 15, 1939. William preceded her in death on August 8, 1996.

Vangie was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, New Holstein, President of Ladies Aide in 1939, a member of the Fellowship Club, and In-Home Outreach. She was a Brownie Scout Leader, belonged to Liberal Arts Club, Calumet County Medical Center Auxiliary, the Calumet Club, and numerous bridge clubs. Vangie's smile and cryptic sense of humor will be missed by all whose lives she touched.

Survivors include her children, Janet (George) Weller, Barbara (John) Delaine, Calvin (Joan) Scholz; her sister, Bernice Wagner; and grandchildren, Erica, Jared, David, Gretchen, Daniel, Todd, and Noelle; great grandchildren, Sakina, Naseer, Zarina, Advent Evangeline, and Elizabeth; nephews, William, Paul and Arthur Wagner and Daniel Spindler. Preceding her were her parents; husband William, daughter Karen and sister Florence (Meyer) Spindler. Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at Zion Lutheran Church, 1702 Van Buren Street in New Holstein. Rev. John Schenck and Rev. Gretchen Mertes officiating. Burial will take place in the New Holstein City Cemetery.
