(1) BOOK: HISTORY OF KAUFMAN COUNTY, VOL.II, compiled & edited by the Kaufman County Historical Commission in Kemp, Texas -- Jeptha Wikle (f416) article submitted by John M. Wikle. "This is a story about my grandfather, Jeptha Wikle. He was the son of Samuel Wikle(Weigel) & Ester Bandy. He lived in the Kaufman area approximately 20 years from about 1844 to 1864. On June 13, 1854 Jeptha married Celia Ann Brewer, the daughter of Wm. T. & Bethany Brewer. Three children were born to Jeptha & Celia at Kaufman, the youngest being my father, George Henry Wikle, born October 15, 1859. About 1864, Jeptha, his brothers, and their families moved to Kansas filing claims for lands being ceded to the US Government by the Osage Indians. Jeptha served in the Northern Army and returned with the rank of Captain. He served as Sheriff of Neosho County, KS when the county was first organized. He also operated an Indian Trading Post."
