James Carl Bullard, known as "Carl" by friends and family, was born on February 13, 1904, in Prentiss County, Mississippi, the second son of Thomas Andrew Bullard and Nancy "Carrie" Woodruff Bullard. Carl was married to Pearl Jerdan on July 15, 1925, in Franklin County, Alabama. For many years, they were proprietors of the Red Bay Cafe, whose slogan was "The Ideal Place To Meet and Eat," and were members of First Baptist Church of Red Bay. Carl died June 24, 1984, in Jefferson County, Alabama, and was survived by his two sons, James Jerdan Bullard and Andrew Carl Bullard.
