David Jackson Kugler was born in Henry County, Georgia, in 1833, the son of James David Kugler (1801-1870) and Frances Roberts Kugler (1806-1897.)

He was married to the former Dicy Sims January 31, 1856, in Henry County. Dicy was born in 1836 and died in 1908.
The couple had ten children:

Records show David enlisted in Company A Georgia Volunteers in Sept. 1862. His pay records indicate for the period of Sept.-Oct.1862, where he is now in Co. B, no pay has been received. Voucher for Nov.-Dec. shows David did received pay on Oct. 2, 1862.
In May of 1863, he was in the General Hospital in Savanah, being transferred to General Hospital in Whitesville, Ga.
Remarks on the transfer states Rubeola. (Could this possibly mean rubella?) He is now in Company B 20 Regulars.

The U.S. Vetrans Gravesite Ca. 1775-2006 states David was in Co. E 30 Georgia Volunter Infantery, Certificate 6001-C.
