John W. Boland, age 56 years, died Friday evening at his home, 129 Van Brunt, Kansas City, Missouri. He was born to Mr. Edward Boland, a native of Ireland and Mrs. Ellen (Ervin) Boland, who was born in Covington, Ky. According to his daughters, he usually listed himself as 2 years older - born in 1884 as listed on the tombstone and his MO death cert. There is little conclusive evidence of his exact year of birth. The 1910 US Census lists him as age 15 with his birth occurring in Apr 1885. He was a supervisor of the U.S. Postal Service Post Office Station C in Kansas City, Missouri.

He was survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Frances Boland (to whom he was married on June 3, 1915) and three daughters, Miss Ruth Kathryn, Miss Evelyn, and Miss Elizabeth Ann Boland all of the home. He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. S. R. Davies, 3508 Windsor, Kansas City, Missouri and Mrs. Thomas Carmody, 3009 Hutchings, Kansas City, Kansas.

Funeral from the Quirk & Tobin Parlors, Linwood and Main at 8:15 Monday morning. Services at Holy Cross church, St. John and Quincy at 9 o'clock. Interment at St. Mary's Cemetery, Kansas City, Missouri. Rosary will be recited at 8 o'clock Sunday evening.

Gravesite Details

It has taken years of effort to get the cemetery to stabilize and secure Grandfather's and Grandmother's headstones flush with the ground. That is why the images show the headstones at 3 different levels over time.
