Edward Lem "Shorty" Thomas, 86, died Monday, January 17, 2005, at Trident Medical Center in Charleston.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, January 20, 2005 at the Earles Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, directed by Andrews Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6 - 9 p.m. on Wednesday, January 19, 2005 at the Earles Church Fellowship Hall.

Mr. Thomas was born in Berkeley County, a son of Alford Edward Thomas and Mary Jane Shuler Thomas.

He was a carpenter with B S Enterprises and a member of the Gourdines Chapel.

Surviving in addition to his wife Bertha Ann Thomas of Andrews are two sons, Edward (Butch) L. Thomas, Jr. of Georgetown and David Thomas of Andrews; a step-son, Furman Thomas, Jr., of Bristol, TN; a step-daughter, Sylvia West of Andrews; three brothers, Bill Thomas of Alvin, Joe Thomas of Cleveland, TN, and Charlie Thomas of Bonneau; four sisters, Dora Gaskins of Macedonia, Rose Harris of St. Stephen, Ida Hilton of Baytown, TX, and Shirley Gaskins of Huger; three grandchildren, Kim Elliott, Heather Thomas, and Brittany Thomas; and two great-grandchildren, Ashley Elliott and Macie Elliott.
